DeAndre Hopkins fought his way out of Houston, and landed in Arizona for his troubles.. What do his 2020 fantasy football prospects look like?

The DeAndre Hopkins-to-Arizona trade was one of the most baffling and mind-boggling moves in the 2020 offseason. Some people wanted to point out that the Texans could not afford his contract demands so they traded him. Hopkins later revealed he made new contract demands in order to give Houston a push to complete a trade. He wanted out from Bill O’Brien’s thumb for a long time, and he jiu jitsued his way out of Houston with the trade. Now he’s in Arizona with the newest New Young Offensive Mind, Kliff Kingsbury, and an exciting offense featuring Kyler Murray. The sky is the limit for Hopkins in 2020 now that he doesn’t have to actively contend with his coach’s play-calling for production.

If you want him, get him, but you’re going to have to pay up for him. He’s a mid-first round pick right now, going right after Michael Thomas and Davante Adams. It’s a personal preference whether you like Tyreek Hill or DeAndre Hopkins better this year, but they both sit neatly between Thomas/Adams and Julio Jones at the end of the first round. Personally, given the dearth of good running backs outside of the first few rounds, I would snag a running back in the first to make sure I’m not trying to sort out Raheem Mostert or Marlon Mack as my RB2. But if you want a first-round wide receiver, he’s as good a bet as any.

Best Case Scenario:

DeAndre Hopkins picks up where he left off with the Texans, but with an actual, decent play-caller running things. We see what a Hopkins who isn’t being held back by Bill O’Brien’s insane play calling. He’s already a top-three wide receiver at worst in this league, so a best-case scenario is merely unlocking his full potential as a wide receiver. If he commands his 28%-30% market share in Arizona as he did in Houston, then you’re looking at around 170 targets. At his career catch rate and career yards per target, that’s 1,400 yards. Not too shabby.

Worst Case Scenario:

At the new Cardinals Meet-and-Greet at Kliff Kinsbury’s palatial estate, one of Nuk’s trademark dreadlocks catches on fire in Kingsbury’s inexplicable firepit and Hopkins loses his powers, Samson-style.
