As we gear up to the start of the NFL season, Football Absurdity is going to bring you a comprehensive breakdown of every notable player that will be available in fantasy football drafts. We only look at the past three seasons for a player. This is because anyone who is looking at data from 2016 to figure out what to do in 2020 had better be Meaghan Trainor figuring out if she really is still all about that base. Jarvis Landry, like every other Cleveland Brown, is coming off a down year in 2019. What about his 2020?

Jarvis Landry Overview
Overview: Sure, he had hip surgery in the offseason, I’ll admit that happened… probably. But the popular notion that the arrival of all-star #1 tight end <checks notes> Austin Hooper and the for-sure-this-time-no-really breakout of Odell Beckham are real threats to Landry’s production… That’s hard to swallow.
Simply put: Landry is a perennial top 24 fantasy WR because he plays well. It’s certainly not because of opportunity, as anyone who’s watched him with the Browns and Dolphins knows. Landry has been a WR2 or better in each of the last five seasons.
Jarvis Landry Draft Strategy
Jarvis Landry Auction Value: $4
Draft Ranking: Find out for your league settings in a Beersheet! (coming late June)
In auction drafts, I’ve been using him as a boring backup should my main WR2 not make the leap. His catch rate gives him a high floor, which is worth $5.
But that’s at the auction table, where WR2s get zero respect. His average draft position is considerably higher, going in the sixth round in both standard and PPR. There are a slew of WRs going around there that have considerably higher upside because of lack of mouths for their QB to feed: Deebo Samuel, D.J. Chark, Terry McLaurin, and mayyyybe Brandin Cooks. Sure, their floors are much lower than Landry’s, but you know what else has a low floor and a high ceiling? The Sistine Chapel. Whereas a high floor-low ceiling could just mean you’re stuck in an air conditioner vent. You can’t argue with architecture. I’d take Landry in the 8th, but not any sooner.
Best Case Scenario
Landry makes it a sixth-straight year as a top 24 receiver.
Worst Case Scenario
Landry takes a step back and is only a WR3. Another reason I like him if he falls, but wouldn’t reach for him (just like cash in a stranger’s pocket).
