Andy Isabella went in the second round to the Arizona Cardinals last year, but has the DeAndre Hopkins addition tanked his fantasy football value?

Andy Isabella Overview:

The Arizona Cardinals took Andy Isabella at the back end of the second round in the 2019 NFL Draft. Arizona took him ahead of D.K. Metcalf and Terry McLaurin, who you might remember them from about sixty spots higher in the draft rankings than Isabella. The simple fact of the matter is that Isabella might have been a wasted pick by Arizona. Through one season, he has 9 receptions for 189 yards, and 88 of those yards came on a play where the 49ers seemingly literally forgot he existed. Now, the Cardinals added DeAndre Hopkins ahead of Isabella on the depth chart. It’s going to be hard to see him getting a lot of run this season behind Hopkins, Christian Kirk, and the immortal Larry Fitzgerald.

An elite college talent who is getting passes from the QB most likely to have a monster breakout season. I can picture it now: Isabella runs a fade, Kyler Murray throws a beautiful rainbow that is about to fall into Isabella’s outstretched arms… and then DeAndre Hopkins snatches it away.

Okay, let’s try again, Isabella makes a shrewd cut and Murray fires a laser that’s coming right at Andy… and then Christian Kirk jumps over, takes the ball, and shouts, “another route photon torpedo’ed by Captain Kirk!” Maybe third time’s the (snake) charm: Isabella gets lose on a comeback route. He looks around, no one is within 15 yards of him. Murray fires a pass towards him. Isabella reaches out, plants his feet, and feels the ground rumble. Out of the ground pops a coffin, with a loud bang the lid explodes open, and Larry Fitzgerald jumps out to take away the pass.

There isn’t much of a point in drafting Andy Isabella unless you are in an NFC West or Andrews-only league. There’s too much ahead of him to make him worth going for in any league format.

It’s rare that a WR3 on a team is fantasy relevant. Don’t spend any draft capital on a WR4, no matter how tempting you think the situation might be.
