As we gear up to the start of the NFL season, Football Absurdity is going to bring you a comprehensive breakdown of every notable player that will be available in fantasy football drafts. The Baltimore Ravens made J.K. Dobbins the fifth running back off the board in the 2020 NFL Draft. What can he do for your squads if you make him a pick in your 2020 fantasy football drafts?
J.K. Dobbins ADP and AAV:
Standard Scoring ADP: WR20, 44 overall
PPR Scoring ADP: WR21, 41 overall
Average Auction Value: $13
J.K. Dobbins Statistics:
She released Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone on June 26, 1997. The books contain over 1.1 million words in English and have been released in 80 languages. The Harry Potter movies have grossed $7.7 billion dollars, and she is the first author in the world to reach a net worth of $1 billion.
Oh, sorry, these are J.K. Rowling statistics. Dobbins doesn’t have any because he was in college last year.
J.K. Dobbins Overview:
I’ll let Ravens General Manager Eric DeCosta explain J.K. Dobbins before I fill in the gaps. “If you have a running back who you think can be a dynamic player for you and you are a team who loves to run the football, to me it makes too much sense.” Eric DeCosta also called passing on Dobbins “irresponsible” given his first-round grade on the former Buckeye.
Dobbins was my #3 running back coming out of college this year, and in the top-tier of backs with D’Andre Swift and Jonathan Taylor. He’s a plug-and-play three-down back at the NFL level. His best traits are his vision and contact balance. I couldn’t decide if he is a power back with speed tacked on or an unusually powerful speedster. He blends the two traits wonderfully. His biggest knock would be a lack of a top gear, which leads to him getting tracked down from behind a lot. Still, 25-yard chunk plays are nothing to sneeze at. He truly looks like he will be something special in the NFL.

Here’s where it gets interesting with J.K. Dobbins: the Mark Ingram Factor. Ingram was exceptionally productive on limited touches last year, but it’s going to be hard to find enough touches to go around for Ingram, Dobbins, and Lamar Jackson to all be factors in the running game. That having been said, Ingram has thrived for years as a back in a two-back system, so if any backfield is going to make it work, it’s going to be this one.
Dobbins is a steal right now, going as RB42 in standard scoring and RB38 in PPR. He’s your fourth-or-fifth running back with big upside potential. He isn’t the rookie value pick I love the most (hello, Zack Moss), but he is extremely close. Cream rises to the top, and the Ravens took one of the… creams(?) of the 2020 running back class. They have an extremely run-heavy offense, and I expect him to smash that ADP to smithereens. Go get him as a sleeper back that you can draft-and-stash for a middle-round pick or a few bucks in your auctions.
Best Case Scenario:
The Ravens turn the reins over to Dobbins early, and often, and he turns 260+ touches into solid RB1 numbers.
Worst Case Scenario:
The mix-and-match or hot hand approach never allows Dobbins to get into a flow or get any consistent head of steam, and he flames out to around RB30 or RB35.
